I spent this afternoon in a language exchange with
Veronica of Kaifeng, Henan Province, China via Skype. At the outset it might actually be better chatting on the Internet rather than going into a language immersion in China. With iTalki I could reach out to my PowerWord Dictionary and Google Translate to craft my reply something I cannot do in face-to-face conversations. Unfortunately, I lost the notepad with some of the new words I have learned and these are words I would have posted in today's blog. Anyway, I managed to make someone happy today because the exchange went over three hours today and not only did I learn but my partner also did. I am lucky because it should be easier for me to locate language partners since I already speak some Mandarin with mostly the right phonetics. It would be easier to communicate since they could go back to their native language to explain what they meant in English. I just thought that I have to blog about this to record who's who in iTalki. Veronica is a 3rd year student in Environmental Art Design. For her, speaking English well means a job when she graduates. Her parents have no restday. They have a papercraft store and they are open 7 days a week.
Later, I had another language exchange with
liangmomo from Guangzhou. She introduced me to China's most popular instant messenger
QQ. It was kinda useless for me as it uses a different encoding for its Chinese fonts.
